Festival of World Cultures is not focused on ethno, folk or world music – Festival concentrates mostly on modern creation taking place here and now, being a vivid response given by artists to questions occurring in surrounding reality and seeking for common artistic denominator for people of different cultures. What iterests us are the artistic cooperations, intercultural projects between artists active in countries not of their origins. We would like to offer events which are equally breaking certain boundaries based on stereotypical thinking, and at the same time are exciting, full of joy, infusing audience with energy.
How to combine embroidery with belly dance? What connections are there between the world's reggae legend and an orchestra of punk mandolinists? Is it possible to put together an American pioneer of the ambient and a producer of impressive visualizations with Serbian avant-garde artists who create their art from discarded scrapes? What has cabaret country-punk in common with fairytale-like combinations of jazz and electronic music?
Or perhaps it doesn't make sense to search for fake links and tracks? Perhaps it’s not worth explaining and theorizing?
Clashes, surprises, bewilderment.
Every year in September, the Tri-City stirs up with an unusual mixture of sounds, languages and colours. We present to our audience artists from various cultural backgrounds: those who work far away from their home countries, and those who draw inspiration from other exotic cultures. Our Festival has become a yearly art event, which cheerfully affirms cultural and artistic variety, establishes the rapport between different nations as well as nurtures mutual tolerance, respect and understanding through art. By means of the festival, we would like to promote positive social attitudes in our city, which in the past functioned as a meeting place of many nations and cultures.
