About the book
Artists, Madmen, Anarchists shows the well documented and often commented decade of the 80s in Gdansk from a different angle than all other publications. The Solidarity movement, social and political changes are only a background for a story about anarchist and artistic initiatives that were born in Gdansk at that time.
Totart (anarchist and artistic formation gathering visual artists, performers, musicians and poets) and RSA (Movement of Anarchist Society, an anarchistic organisation) were using different weapon in their fight for freedom. Totart was rebelling against the dull schemes of aesthetics and sad routine of life – also on the political scene; whereas RSA was exhorting people to reject millitary service and get more radical.
It is the first Polish book about the real alternative of the 80s. written by artists who directly took part in it and co-created it.
