"Sopot Residents" [Open Culture SPA]

The Exhibition Sopocianie (Sopot residents), dedicated to the residents of Sopot from the eighteenth century to the year 1945 will consist of two parts.

The first part is an open-air presentation available in various places throughout the city. We invite you to journey through both Sopot's most popular and less known places. We invite you to discover the history of Sopot as written by its citizens by finding twenty points presenting profiles of selected Sopot residents.
The opening of the open-air exhibition will take place on July 8th at 12.00 in the garden of the Museum of Sopot, 8 Poniatowski Str., where there will be an installation dedicated to Ernst Claaszen.
On July 18 at 18.00 we welcome you to the opening of the multimedia exhibition Sopocianie in the halls of the Ernst Claaszen villa from the early twentieth century.

The second part of the project will show the postwar history after 1945. Thanks to a specially prepared website www.sopocianie.muzeumsopotu.pl, and meetings with Sopot residents, the organizers hope to collect as much information as possible about the post-war residents of the city: where they come from, how many of them were living here before the war, and how their lives were in the their new reality. Based on these meetings, a documentary film is now in production, directed by Jerzy Afansajew.

Original concept: Małgorzata Buchholz-Todoroska
Curators: Justyna Gibbs and Karolina Babicz
Organizer: Muzeum Sopotu

The project is a part of coordinated by the BSCC Open Culture SPA.
