Out de Bicz! [Open Culture SPA]

Within Out de Bicz! project,Teatr Stajnia Pegaza of the Sopot Off de BICZ Stage will present four performances in public space. Both the choice of performances and the scenery are not incidental. They are linked by a theme of the contemporary man’s condition, questions on the sense of existence in the world of technology and dehumanization of relationships. Artists decided to go for an experiment – they will quit the quiet and safe stage and ‘take over’ the city instead, trying to find new, surprising contexts and create a new space for encounters with the audience.

Adaptations of Polish literary works have been chosen for the project in order to emphasize the specificity and poetics of the Polish writing as well as promote this literature among Polish and foreign visitors to Sopot.
At the railway station in Sopot, Była Żydówka, nie ma Żydówki performance will be staged (based on Marian Pankowski’s prose). In the vicinity of the Municipal Council (stream), Spowiedź (based on Jan Wilkowski’s Spowiedź w drewnie) will be presented. A teraz JA (based on Ślub and Pamiętnik Stefana Czarnieckiego by Witold Gombrowicz) will be staged at Obrońców Westerplatte street (overpass) and Noel Wspak (based on Matka by Witkacy) – in the passage at the continuation of Majkowskiego street.

Plan:
Performances from the repertoire will be adapted to a given space, taking advantage of natural topography and architecture. The audience will have a chance to visit all locations and watch all performances in seven days.
Performances selected for the project are as follows (they will be staged every day for six days and parallel to them, smaller forms will presented at 10.00 pm):
- Była Żydówka, nie ma Żydówki (Marian Pankowski), directed by Ewa Ignaczak, performed by Teatr Stajnia Pegaza
- Szukanie ojczyny (Czesław Miłosz), directed by Ewa Ignaczak, performed by Teatr Stajnia Pegaza
- A teraz JA! (Witold Gombrowicz), directed by Ewa Ignaczak, performed by Teatr Stajnia Pegaza
- Noel Wspak (Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz), directed by Ewa Ignaczak, performed by Teatr Stajnia Pegaza

All of the above-mentioned productions are linked by the issue of an individual searching for his/her own identity in the surrounding reality. These performances describe a conflict between an individual and the unified society which forces humans to submit not only to social norms but also to fixed patterns of thinking and behaving.
