Off Centre | Poza Centrum [Open Culture SPA]

Off Centre | Poza Centrum project embraces a cycle of artistic and performance actions whose central figure and scenery will be Kamienny Potok residential block located at Tatrzańska street, in the vicinity of railway track and major artery.

The heart of the project will be a rented apartment which will serve as an alternative gallery, studio and artistic office. Every day will be devoted to a different field of art (functional art, design, multimedia, music, performance art, interactions). There will also be various host artists who will supervise temporary exhibitions (e.g. in the 24-hour formula), workshops, integration activities, performance and music actions as well as one-day ‘Hyde Park’ – artistic space open to everybody.
The block will be turned into a large screen on which gigantic paintings and video works by Bogna Burska and Dominik Lejman will be presented.
Artistic interventions will be held also in the elevator of the block at Tatrzańska street as well as in the windows, balconies, basements and selected apartments and they will involve local inhabitants.

Off Centre project is to surprise inhabitants as well as participants and audiences with unexpected micro (elevator, apartment, balcony) and macro (façade) scale of artistic performance and events.

Within OFF CENTRE | POZA CENTRUM project, SZTUKA NA SZTUKI action will be carried out.

Taking advantage of the infrastructure of the marketplace at Polna street, we would like to establish commercial space for works of contemporary art and invite artists to present and ‘put up for sale’ their works. The objective of SZTUKA NA SZTUKI action is to draw attention to exhibitions held in the Tricity, direct sharing with experience, initiation of future cooperation and dynamic encounters with audiences, partially through untypical form of the display and partially through debates and talks.
Buyers will have a chance to purchase works of art without gallery commission. They will also be able to approach artists directly and get to know the history behind works etc. In the scenery of the marketplace which will continue its regular functioning at the time, the informal character of purchases and the use of commercial mechanisms of the place (such as direct sale from a car, a camp bed or a blanket spread on the sidewalk) will make the barrier between the artist and audience vanish and art will naturally become a part of everyday life. SZTUKA NA SZTUKI will provide an opportunity to increase diversity of potential audiences of contemporary art. It will allow people to leave the marketplace with not only regular shopping but also with a painting or sculpture.
