Column of Culture (Słup Kultury) is a cyclical artistic action: a chosen artist takes control of a morris column situated next to the St. John’s church in Gdansk and – using any means – creates a piece that should in any way stay in dialogue with the building, its history or surrounding.
A work of an artist can be observed by people on the street - they can interact, talk, maybe even influence the creative process. The artist is working outdoors – his work isn’t intimate any more. Determined by weather and surrounding he himself becomes an object interesting to observe.

To participate in the following edition of Column of Culture action we’ve invited Piotr Szwabe.

Piotr Szwabe vel Pisz. Born 1975 in Gdynia. A son of Ewa and Leszek. A husband of Agnieszka, father of Ita. Painter, performer, vocalist, sometimes poet and curator. He lives and works in Gdańsk.
Szwabe was a founder, organiser and a participant of European Gallery of Murales Węzeł Kliniczna (2000-2005) and European Festival of Monumental Painting Gdańsk Zaspa (2009-2011). He was also a cofounder of an artistic formation Pracownia Ludzie Gdańsk (active participation 1998-2000) and of a painting group SAM (active participation 2003-2006).
