Together for a Just Future - FORUM

Is Poland Situated on the Mediterranean Sea?

The answer to this question is not as simple as it seems. You will have an opportunity to discuss it with activists, experts, and participants of a forum organized by the Polish network of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures (ALF) on 1-2 March 2013, in Gdansk. The aim of the foundation is to support cultural and intellectual exchange between the countries situated along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea: from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Over a hundred Polish NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and public institutions involved in intercultural dialogue and forming part of the Polish network of the Anna Lindh Foundation will meet during the forum Together for a Just Future: Good Practices in the Field of Social Dialogue about Diversity, Equality and Democracy on 1-2 March 2013, in Gdańk. We also invite local social and cultural activists from the region of Pomerania as well as from all over Poland to participate in the forum. The meeting will also be attended by special guests from North Africa.

The form of the meeting will be interactive and will give all interested people the opportunity to participate actively. During the forum you will have the chance to participate in discussions and workshops, and take part in making plans for Polish development aid (proposals will be submitted to the organizers of the April ALF Forum in Marseille).

A detailed program is available on the website: www.justfuture.pl/agenda/

[…] the impact of the Mediterranean on Polish culture and identity has been vital and determined Poland’s civilisational development – in this sense it is impossible to conceive of Central Europe and Poland  without the Mediterranean. Can it be inferred, therefore, that in terms of culture and identity Poland does lie on the Mediterranean? The question remains open […], which you will have the opportunity to discuss with activists, experts and participants of the forum (quoted from the book Does Poland lie on the Mediterranean? Edited by R. Kusek, J. Sanetra-Szeliga, The International Cultural Centre, (Kraków 2012).

Registration for the forum is open from 7 February to 21 February 2013 using the online form available on the website:

The event will be held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of Pomorskie Voivodeship, Mieczysłw Struk, and the Mayor of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz. It will be carried out in cooperation with the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre, the European Solidarity Centre and the Institute for Urban Culture in Gdansk. The main coordinator of the forum is the REVERS Foundation from Krakow.
