Skill: woman - exhibitions of Gosia Golińska

International Women’s Day rises extreme emotions-to some people it brings back the memories of Polish People’s Republic: bunches of carnations and nylon tights, some think of XIX century women’s suffrage , to others it is a pretext to give flowers to a woman and celebrate femininity. This very celebration of femininity is present in art-works of Gosia Golinska, displayed at exhibition “Skill: woman” in the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre gallery.

"Skill: woman" is one of those artistic efforts that leave the gallery walls and encourage to interact. On her blog http://sukienka-do-ziemi.blogspot.com the artist collects histories of dresses, that each of us can share. We are encouraged to share one from our wardrobes. Clothes, including dresses are an important element of everyday-life, left without the user it carries the information about a person, symbolizing daily efforts. Ugly dresses wake sadness, some make us remember past events, situations or people, some other bring dreams, inspire and give joy-the artist says. Everyday the artist enlarges the her private syllabus of descriptions relating to this part of wardrobe- working dress, feminine, too small, check, maternity dress, stained, wedding dress, stained with wine, blood, from Ela, from grandmother, in red dots, to ground, mini, from Stella McCartney, too short, exclusive, favored, from cuts, evening, with frills, for high school graduation exams, when i loose weight, forgotten, meaty, crazy, sexy, knitted, for coffin, silk, see-through, vulgar, in stars, pleated, given away with no regret...

Gosia Golińska, as every woman, loves clothes - but she loves it in a special way. She loves wearing it, designing it, style it and compose, exploring her colorful personality. She uses the clothes ( which she also collects in amounts surpassing collections of typical, contemporary fashionable women) to create multicolor sculptures and installations — she puts them together in fabulous colorful compositions and shapes. In her hands clothes get back to life, its insides are filled with new spirits, histories, anecdotes.

I miss the women's solidarity-the artist confesses — and being a woman is not such a simple thing, because we enter many roles. Her sense of humor reaches for scouts terminology, where young scouts are gaining skills, proficiency in various areas.

The exhibition displays 2 site-specific installations. One is inspired with a painting "Szal Uniesien" by Podkowinski, and second "We are all daughters" is including dresses given to artist. We shall see video projection " Become Venus" prepared together with Klub Zak and Amareya Theater.
