Emilia Wernicka "Butterflies" – EXHIBITION

BUTTERFLIES

A poet is one who rejoices intensely and worries deeply, gets angry easily and loves strongly;
who feels, sympathises and becomes deeply affected. That is what children are like.

Janusz Korczak

All children are poets of their time, following with their eyes things that elude adults. Stumbling on the dull reality and defining it in their own innovative way. They are well aware that there is no single solution, which we adults tend to accept without reflection.

For a child, reality is an area of trials and experiments that go beyond the perception of grown-ups. These experiments, often received with laughter, yield highly pertinent and inspiring conclusions. My works are an attempt to appreciate and understand children's hidden surrealist talents. Children are the most frequent subjects of my photographs. By adopting the child's outlook, I can analyse the external reality in a more penetrating manner.

The series of photographs entitled “Butterflies” are little girls presented in a space filled with antique industrial objects. Based on this setup, I analyse the relationships between the object and subject in time of war, when the border between animate and inanimate becomes blurred. A human can become a machine, and a machine – a human.

The exhibition preview will be held on 20 January 2016 at 6 p.m.
