With eye, brush and graver — exhibition of works by Elżbieta Kowalska-Matuszewska

The anniversary exhibition of works by Elżbieta Kowalska-Matuszewska titled With eye, brush and graver is a summary of the 40-year artistic output of the print designer and painter living in Gdańsk. 

 

Elżbieta Kowalska-Matuszewska graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where she studied printmaking — her later passion and main method of artistic expression She is fascinated by all the most demanding metal techniques, especially the laborious technique of mezzotint. She also creates pastel and oils paintings as well as reliefs using her own original technique.

 

The artist used her love and knowledge of printmaking as a co-author of the book titled “ Grafika Gdańska” (Prints of Gdańsk) and at the 1st Graphic Design Triennial of the Baltic Region in Gdańsk. She took part in many national and international exhibitions and her works were awarded at 18 printmaking competitions. The artist also took part in the project involving joint painting of 3 large-format Gdańsk Paintings. In 2011 she received the Art Award of the Marshal of Pomorskie Province.

 

The exhibition in BSCC Gallery includes her oil paintings and prints. We will show the artist's signature intricate ballet series in the technique of mezzotint, as well as her architectural etchings and aquatints . These will be complemented by her award-winning works inspired by nature.

The exhibition preview will feature a performance by students of the Secondary Ballet School in Gdańsk.
