one-off events

One-off events collapse

It is impossible to enumerate cultural events organized by the BSCC on a one-off basis. Almost every week there is something worth one’s attention. Those singular events not only consolidate and promote the society of the Tricity artists but also present the artistic scene from other regions of the country to local audience.

Selected theatrical events
We invited, for its first visit in Gdańsk, a world-famous theatre - Song of the Goat Theatre with its play that had become a highlight of theatre festivals in Poland and around the world - “Chronicles - A Lamentation” directed by Grzegorz Bral.

Also thanks to the BSCC, the theatrical audience could see a play called “Good morning, Ladies and Gentleman - Witkacy” directed by Andrzej Dziuk and presented by Teatr Witkacy from Zakopane.

Selected interdisciplinary projects
To celebrate the 80th birthday of Günter Grass, we organized an extraordinary musical-visual performance prepared by an international group of a dozen or so musicians and performers - “A Concert for Grass”. The performance recalled the motifs from Grass’s books and Gdańsk most recent history, used visualizations generated live by Robert Rumas and Piotr Wyrzykowski, and music composed by Mikołaj Trzaska and his band created for this occasion only - Mottlau River Band.

Specially for the needs of a Polish-German project Pixell Fall 3D we have constructed a mobile scene resembling an aquarium inside of which dancers performed a prepared choreography – their movements coresponded with visualisations to create an effect of a computer game. The visual effect was strenghten by costumes and additional elements of scenography.  Due to the transparent wall of thge scene, the performance could be observed from all sides. Music to this event was composed by Gdansk-based arists: Dominik Bukowski and Paweł Grabowski. The project was presented both, in Poland and Germany.

Extraordinary, though more intimate was also a project of a writer, Daniel Odija and musician, Marcin Dymiter, "Linie Północne"("Northern Lines") that was shown in the Old Town Hall in 2009. The artists combined prose with music, presenting to the Tricity audience works that exceeded the deeply rooted genre boundaries.

Selected concerts
Probably the largest, not related to any festival concert organised lately by the BSCC was the one in tribute to Jacek Kaczmarski, great singer and songwriter whose songs became anthems of the Solidarity opposition in the 80s. In the concert hosted by Jacek Bończyk performed such artists as: Przemysław Gintrowski, Antonina Krzysztoń, Mirosław Hrynkiewicz, Mirosław Czyżykiewicz, Andrzej Garczarek, Eliza Banasik, Łukasz Majewski, Jacek Kleyff i Kwartet ProForma. The concert took place in the St. John’s church.

In the Old Town Hall we’ve also presented a project from Warsaw - a group called Baaba Kulka - a combination of two strong elements of Polish alternative scene - a group called Baaba, well-known for its mix of rock, improvised jazz and electro - and Gabriela Kulka, a pianist and singer.
A bit later Baaba performed in the Old Town Hall solo.

We also had a pleasure to present an innovative version of Kochanowski’s "Laments", prepared by Michał Jacaszek.

Selected conferences
Organised in 2009 „Kultura Podaj Dalej” ("Culture Pass It On") International Conference was addressed to cultural animators, artists, teachers, student, lecturers and public administration employees. During the conference members of the public had a possibility not only to share their experiences and „good practises”, but also to meet specialists dealing with cultural education from different regions of Europe – Ireland, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, France, Germany. We have also invited experts from Poland and Pomerania. Our goal was clear – search for effective methods of cultural education of children, youth and adults to be implemented in our region.

Another conference worth mentioning was International Conference "Tereny nadrzeczne miejscem spotkań mieszkańców" ("River banks as a Meeting Place for City Dwellers") organised together with Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Arts and the River//Cities platform. Among the lecturers of the conference were among others organisers of The Danube Island Festival (Vienna), The Thames Festival (London), representatives of cultural and research organisations EGEAC (Lisbon), Citta d’aqua (Venice), Intercult (Stockholm) as well as representatives from Poland – specialists for the Gdansk and Poznan Technical Universities, organisers of Arts Festival on Vistula River „Przemiany” from Warsaw.
All that in order to get acquainted with experiences of our partners on how to transform river banks into attractive areas with a social and cultural potential maintaining their natural, enviromental merits.

Selected literary meetings
Literary meetings take place in the BSCC specially often. Here, in the Old Town Hall the readers often for the first time have the possibility to acquaint themselves with the most recent propositions of both, Polish and foreign writers and poets.
