The St. John's Church was erected in the 14th and 15th century. Not only was it built on weak ground but on improperly laid foundations as well. Throughout the history it was destroyed by wars and building catastrophes many times. Eastern wall of the church in the 17th century leant out about 1 meter. Church was given an wonderful equipment - the stone altar, baroque Schroder's epitaph, the organs.
The most part of the equipment luckily wasn't destructed but in 1945 roofs burnt and a part of vaults and tower walls collapsed. The building construction was damaged so much that the further church existence was endangered. After the war, the church didn't have an owner and a maintainer. In 1992 the building was handed on to Roman - Catholic Church, which gave it for use to Baltic Sea Culture Centre.
In 1995 last stage of reconstruction works started. Now the Baltic Sea Culture Centre plans to use the building as a exhibition and concert hall. The experiment proved that the coexistence of many functions is possible.
