Mieto Olszewski. "Paintings and objects"

Mieto Olszewski, a professor of Fine Arts Academy in Gdansk, presents in BSCC Gallery his newly created  paintings.

A painter, printmaker, illustrator, but also an essayist and storyteller, famous for his lightness of pen and undiscriminating choice of words - a living chronicle of the Gdansk Academy, inexhaustible source of anecdotes and stories. He often says that he has been painting the same picture for his entire life, so one will  not be surprised to learn that the subject of his newest paintings is nude.

Exhibition opening: daily, 10AM - 6PM

[non/ places] - exhibition of Sławomir Lipnicki

The presented exhibition constitutes a picture of a tourist trip into a specific territory non- places. As a picture of negated  places those spaces are the areas of repressed memories . They define more who we are not in the previously existing place, which at that time was important and intimate.

Exhibition of Marta Branicka entitled Convert to object presents steel sculptures with transparent forms. Title of the exhibition is related to popular graphic program, which has been used by arist during designing of the project. Stark forms balance between mechanical and organic world, they constitute elements of compositition and transfigure space of the gallery.

We are inviting you to the exhibition Geodesic of Daniel Hanzlik, which is a part of the international Prague Contemporary Art Festival Tina B. 2011.

Daniel Hanzlik - was born in 1970, he studied glass making techniques at the Academy of Arts in Prague. Despite his specific education, he combines various arts with media: painting, photography with multimedia - which are very important to his work. Hanzlik creates also in urban space. Many of his projects are related to advertisement, which is a symbol of the post - industrial civilization and a light source. Light is present in many of his projects - usually as a leitmotif, or as a mean of artistic expression.

We are inviting you to the exhibition, which is a part of the project Theatrum vitae. Marian Kołodziej. Theatre of life.
 
The exhibition is presented in the St. John's International Cultural Centre in Gdansk. Kołodziej was associated with that place. In the 70 he estabilished there the Centre of the Polish Scenography. The premiere of last performance with scenography which was created by Kołodziej took place in that building, in 2001. It was Tragedy about rich and Lazar by Anonim Gdanski (directed by Krzysztof Babicz, premiere: 8.06.2001, Wybrzeże Theatre, Gdansk). Marian Kołodziej was attentive and critical participant of events, which took place in St. John's Church.

The exhibition will be opened on 20 November 2011, in the the BSCC Gallery (Old Town Hall, 33/35 Korzenna Str.) at 6.00 pm by Anna Zalewska – a curator of the exhibition and Krzysztof Miękus. Exhibition will be open until 12 December, 12.00 am – 6.00pm, admission 1 zloty.

"Taboo in art for children"


Issues of death, illness and adversity for a long time weren’t present in art created for children – similarly sex, domestic abuse or parents’ divorce. Nevertheless, the last decade has brought changes on this field and more and more often authors of books for children reach for the taboo subjects. Mostly Scandinavian authors and illustrators tend to present these subjects, but it can also be noticed at Austrian, Swiss or Portugese authors and artists.

Mariacka under the Stars is a meeting of amber and art in natural scenography of one of the most beautiful streets of old Gdansk - Mariacka Street. Here are traditionally located galleries and studios preparing and presenting amber. This is already the second time that the International Amber Asocciation prepared the celebration along with Gdańsk International Trade Fair, many cultural institutions and the St. Mary’s Basilica.

For the past 15 years the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre and the Kosycarz Foto Press have been sharing a pleasure of presenting to you results of the Gdansk Press Photo competition. This is the most significant photo competition designed for photographers (both, professional and amateur) from the north of Poland (Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie Voivodship).

Opening of an exhibition during which we will also award the laureates will take place September 7 at the BSCC gallery at 5.00 pm.
Exhibition will be opened till September 25 (opened every day within 10.00am and 6.00 pm).

"Art in Exile | Sztuka na uchodźstwie" – exhibition


The exhibition in the St. John’s Centre will present four Polish post-war painters-emigrants: Henryk Gotlib, Feliks Topolski, Zdzisław Ruszkowski and Marek Żuławski. These were artists acclaimed not only in the Polish surroundings - they managed to delight English critics and art lovers as well.

Opening of an exhibition will take place August 30 at 7.00 pm.
The exhibition will be open till September 25.

"Still life forever alive" - exhibition


Still life forever alive is a title of a new exhibition presented at the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre. Its curator, Maria Borkowska-Flisek, a well known animator of culture focused on presenting works that correspond with the famous, though a bit forgotten motif.
How fascinating and surprising effects can give a game with convention the curator prooves presenting selection of works of more than sixty authors from Poland and Lithuania.

"Sopot Residents" [Open Culture SPA]
The Exhibition Sopocianie (Sopot residents) will consist of two parts: the first one will focus on the residents of Sopot from the eighteenth century to the year 1945 presented in an open-air exhibitions available in various places throughout the city. The second part of the project will show the postwar history after 1945.
