We are also preparing sweet workshops on this occasion!

ADMISSION: You can take a free pass for a meeting in a bookstore in the Old Town Hall and in the Bookstore GWO in Wybrzeże Theatre. The amount of seats is limited.





 

"Column of Culture" presents: Piotr Szwabe

Column of Culture (Słup Kultury) is a cyclical artistic action: a chosen artist takes control of a morris column situated next to the St. John’s church in Gdansk and – using any means – creates a piece that should in any way stay in dialogue with the building, its history or surrounding. To participate in the following edition of Column of Culture action we’ve invited Piotr Szwabe.

Sopot Film Festival [Open Culture SPA]

During this year’s, 11th edition, the Festival organisers will include a special section within which the most interesting European films of the past decade, repeatedly awarded at the most important European film festivals, will be presented. We will also screen new productions which have not been officially released so far as well as films from partner festivals from Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. We will organize film workshops with participation of European filmmakers, screenings of silent films, outdoor shows on the beach, exhibitions and video art presentations in urban space.

"CROSSACTIONS: Urban Tales" [Open Culture SPA]

Crossactions: Urban Tales project embraces an exhibition of site specific works as well as a cycle of perfomative actions and direct artistic interventions in the public space which take advantage of infrastructure of a given place. We invited young artists of various fields to present their projects in selected locations at Grunwaldzka street and in the exhibition space at Haffnera street.

"Nature" [Open Culture SPA]

Nature is an outdoor performance of the Sopot Dance Theatre based on the poetry of Bolesław Leśmian. It refers to the need of intimacy among humans, the synergy of sensuality, spirituality and physicality, longing for the nature and crossing of boundaries set by civilization and culture.

7th Festival of World Cultures "Window onto the World" [Open Culture SPA]

Festival of World Cultures Window onto the World has been established and held by the Baltic Sea Culture Center for a few years. This event brings together music and arts originating in various traditions from all around the world. Seventh edition of the festival will be entitled Trans Borders / Poprzez Granice.

"Literary Sopot" [Open Culture SPA]

The Literary Sopot project is a stroll in the company of literature. In selected locations of Sopot, local actors will read fragments of books by Paweł Huelle, Czesław Miłosz, Marek Krajewski, Mariusz Czubaj and Zbigniew Herbert. The literary route will be constituted by places associated with the writers or their stay in Sopot and by locations characteristic of the city and described in the books.

ARTbus 187 [Open Culture SPA]

In July 2011 the bus line 187 in Sopot will become a mobile gallery presenting works of artists invited to take part in the project.
The starting point for ARTbus project was the idea that artists should interfere in the public space of Sopot in places where art has not been present before, referring to the nature of the city. 187 bus route which runs almost through the whole city – from the center to the outskirts – is perfect for this project as it is also a convenient transport to/from places of presentations.

Off Centre | Poza Centrum [Open Culture SPA]

Off Centre | Poza Centrum project embraces a cycle of artistic and performance actions whose central figure and scenery will be Kamienny Potok residential block located at Tatrzańska street, in the vicinity of railway track and major artery.
The heart of the project will be a rented apartment which will serve as an alternative gallery, studio and artistic office. Off Centre project is to surprise inhabitants as well as participants and audiences with unexpected micro (elevator, apartment, balcony) and macro (façade) scale of artistic performance and events.

6th Festival of the African Films AfryKamera 2011

AfryKamera is the largest in Poland festival that presents to a wider audience contemporary African cinematography. During the past editions of the Festival we have been asking members of the audience about their sugestions, reactions on the movies we’ve selected, about their likes and dislikes. The strongest and most often appearing voices we have taken into consideration preparing this year’s programme of AfryKamera.
