30. Festival of Music Inspired by Folklore "Sounds of the North" - workshops in the framework of “Norwegian Panorama” project
26th – 30th July 2010

We invite you for a week of music and dance form Norway and Poland.
Dance workshops with live music, singing and fiddle playing.

Programme:

TRADITIONAL DANCE WORKSHOPS
Polish dance
– leading Piotr Zgorzelski, live music by Janusz Prusinowski Trio
During five days - course you can master the basis of Polish traditional dances i.a. mazurek, oberek, walczyk, polonez, kujawiak and especially dances with triple meter (counted for three), so called mazurka meter. Participants will learn how to dance in pairs on the circle, in open and closed configuration.

Norwegian dance
– leading and live music by Endre Kleivland and the band
Workshops will be unique opportunity to get to know Norwegian rhythms! Participants will learn Norwegian dances from different regions i.a. pols, springar and gruelling halling.

FIDDLE WORKSHOPS
Polish fiddle – leading Janusz Prusinowski
Workshops will introduce participants into musical language areas of Radom and Lublin. Rhythmical and danceable basis of mazurka thinking, phrase of songs’ texts, understanding of fiddle bowing dynamics are basis of playing mazurkas. The workshops will give an opportunity to try oneself in variability and improvisation.

Norwegian fiddle (hardangerfiddle / (nor.) hardingfele) – leading Endre Kleivland
During workshops you will learn traditional melodies from Norway including those played using hardingfele (it could be played using common fiddle after resetting the pitch).

Fiddle workshops are addressed to persons with ability to play fiddle by ear.

POLISH SINGING WORKSHOP
To be game of everything – leading Agata Harz
During workshops you can find and master your nature given so called white voice and learn songs that were accompanying most important moments of our ancestors lives like birth, party, marriage, work, time of reflection and sadness. Participants will sing Polish traditional songs from Mazowsze, Lubelszczyzna and Podlasie regions.

Singing workshop is addressed to women only.

Workshop ends with the Dance Night, 31st of July 2010 at 20.30
with participation of Janusz Prusinowski Trio and Endre Kleivland’s band.

10.00-12.00 – Polish dance
12.30-14.30 – Norwegia dance
16.00-18.30 – „To be game of everything” – Polish singing workshop for women
15.30-17.00 – Polish fiddle
17.00-18.30 – Norwegian fiddle (hardingfele)

31st of July (Saturday) – Dance Night at 20.30,
St. John’s Centre, Gdańsk, Świętojańska Str 50
