The Miłosz Year – MIŁOSZ MULTIPLE PORTRAIT

Due to the 100th anniversary of the poet’s birth, the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage proclaimed 2011 the Miłosz Year.

The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre prepared a series of events devoted to the literary output and a person of Czesław Miłosz. We intended to show the poet in a varied, wide way, what underlines cycle’s title: MIŁOSZ’S MULTIPLE PORTRAIT. Its programme consists of events confirming his canonical position in the Polish literature, but also those that focus on different sides of Miłosz’s interests: contesting arts or researching mass culture.

Within the cycle we shall invite you for the following events:

21-22 March :: International Conference Czesław Miłosz’s „North Side”

21 March-13 April :: exhibition Czesław Miłosz. Returns, documenting poet’s relations with the Pomerania

20-31 May :: exhibition/presentation Art is generally suspicious, consisting of:
- multimedia work of Anna and Adam Witkowscy
- animated etude of Przemysław Adamski and Katarzyny Kijek
The authors, using the language of mass culture, shall try to answer Miłosz’s provokative thesis of arts as an escape.

20 May :: presentation of a documentary movie of Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz The Magic Mountain – the American portrait of Czesław Miłosz. The film will precede a lecture about poet’s relations with film and new forms of expression

19 May :: educational contests for youth Gucio enchanted: shred poetry

7 June :: final of a music contest destined for the young Pomeranian bands.
