Another time we encourage you to take part in a meeting with the most interesting book illustrations. This time the main subject of the Baltic Meeting of Illustrators will be well known from the Scandinavian mythology Trolls, gnomes and hobgoblins. Together with our guests we shall take a closer look on their presence in literature, visual arts and music. They wiil also be a leitmotiv of presentation and discussions. Nevertheless, we won’t confine our interests only to the Scandinavian reflections, but also encourage our guests to talk about the Polish hobgoblins and dwarfs well known from Maria Konopnicka’s fairy tales – recently published short stories for children gave them a new life.
Under the veil of talking about trolls and hobgoblins we would also like to discusse the role of a fairy tale and its characters in the life of a child. Does the heroes of folk fairy tales and mythologies help to tame the world or maybe contrary – they make it even more starnge and dangerous? And maybe the mythological creatures live inside us? Can we imagine and present them?
We have invited writers and illustrators from Sweden and Norway who will tell us more about the world of trolls, the tradition of this motif in the Scandinavian arts and about its meaning for the contemporary people. Among the invited guests are: Svein Hyhus – Norwegian writer and illustrator, Ulf Stark – Swedish writer and the illustrators of his books: Anna Hoglund and Kristina Digman. From Norway will also come Ingerlise Kongsgaard, a well known painter of trolls. An introduction to the world of trolls will make Janina Orlov.
About the history and the present life of the Polish dwarfs we shall talk with Grzegorz Leszczyński and Joanna Olech and about the recently published books about hobgoblins will tell s a writer Melania Kapelusz and illustrators Ewa Poklewska-Koziełło and Jerzy Głuszek.
We have also prepared a workshop for young illustrators – they will be lead by our guests from Norway
A special multimedia concert per Gynt Troll Remix will finalise this year’s edition of the Baltic Meeting of Illustrators.
