Baltic Youth Philharmonic

The orchestra was initiated in 2011, as a priority of Simfonia Artistica Juvenilia inspired by the idea of Sylwia Anna Janiak. The orchestra rehearses systematically , according to schedule. Youths are perfecting their skills in chambers of Music Academy in Gdansk supervised by qualified teachers and artists. Artistic developments of the young participants of the project require showing participant's skills during concerts, festivals and competitions. Last year the orchestra played 4 concerts and took part in two international music competitions. To be part of the orchestra everyone must constantly perfect their artistic workshop and learn.

Baltic Youth Philharmonic inaugurated its activity on 25 February 2012 at the concert hall of Music Academy in Gdansk. Almost 100 young instrumentalists and 3 soloists performed. The orchestra conducted by Sylwia Anna Janiak performed Mahler's D-dur "Titan" , trumpet concert by A. Artunian and viola concert of A. Dvorak.

In May 2012 the orchestra was invited to play at "Gdansk Citizen of the Year" gala at the ceremony at Baltic Philharmonic the orchestra and solosits performed: viola concert e-moll of F. Mendelssohn, Tzigane by M. Ravel and Dances from A. Borodina opera. In 2012 BYP was invited to play in Konigsberg and performed on 30.12.2012. Baltic Youth Philharmonic performed at Metropolis is Okey annual festival organized by the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre. Repertoire of the BYP includes symphonic compositions, chamber music, music from movies and musicals from baroque to contemporary

Sylwia Anna Janiak conductor, violinists
A graduate of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in two faculties: instrumental, specialising in violin in the class of Professor Krystyna Jurecka and conducting, composition and music theory, specialising in symphonic and opera conducting, in the class of Professor Elżbieta Wiesztordt.
She has worked with many orchestras in Poland and abroad, including the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Cracow, the Elbląg Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Podlaska Philharmonic, the Czech Radio Pilsen Philharmony Orchestra, the Winterthur Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot.
She has been leading the Symphony Orchestra at the Feliks Nowowiejski General Secondary Music School in Gdańsk since September 2010.In August of 2010 and 2011, she has performed with the Orchestra, and with the Grand Festival Orchestra during the Eurounionorchestries International Young Musicians’ Festival in Świeradów Zdrój. Each year, she performs contemporary music at the“Ku przyszłości” [Towards the Future] Contemporary Music Concert cycle held as part of the Gdańsk Science Festival and concert cycles at the Gdańsk Academy of Music devoted to individual composers.
She was the youngest participant to qualify to the 5th Witold Lutosławski International Young Conductors’ Competition in Białystok (2011). In August 2011 she established the Sinfonia Artistica Juvenilia Foundation for the Support of Young Artists. Its priority activity was to establish the Baltic Philharmonic of the Young symphony orchestra.
Since October 2012 she is a teacher at Music Academy in Gdansk, teaching conducting and reading scores in Conducting, Composition and Music Theory Department of the Academy.
