“Chopin Verte” ballet performance and Chopin Exhibition

The ballet titled “Chopin Verte” was composed for the 19th edition of Chopiniada as a follow-up of those created yearly since 1999 by the Chopiniada Foundation of Krystyna Biegańska. It is the first performance of a ballet to the music by F. Chopin, consisting of two parts. 1st act (choreography by Michał Chróścielewski) is an attempt at visual representation of music full of contrasting emotions, where the light of good and harmony is dimmed by the shadow of evil and destruction. The outlines of the artist’s portrait are filled with yearning for love, fulfilment and dissatisfaction. 2nd act (choreography by Bogdan Szymaniuk and Małgorzata Insadowska) takes us to a special sphere of the composer’s music: the world of folk – mazurkas by F. Chopin.

The event is accompanied by the CHOPIN EXHIBITION presenting facts about the composer. It focuses on the period when the young Chopin was living in Poland, presenting his musical output and so-called Chopin Routes with many illustrations and facts from the composer’s life. You can see the places where he was born, grew up, studied and lived; the towns he visited regularly and those he just passed through on the way from Warsaw to Gdańsk and back. The exhibition serves as a reference to the 190th anniversary of Chopin’s visit to Gdańsk.

The exhibition is open for visitors between 26 July and 6 August. FREE ENTRY
