Gdańsk Painters of the 19th and 20th Century

The Baltic Sea Culture Centre is pleased to invite you to the exhibition Gdańsk Painters of the 19th and 20th Century

Gdańsk Painters of the 19th and 20th Century is a collection of paintings built up by Andrzej Walas over a period of more than 35 years. The works shown in the exhibition were painted by artist who were born, brought up or educated in Gdańsk. They include some very interesting, unknown paintings by such artists as: Herman Both, Michael Carl Gregorovius, Paul Dannowsky, Albert Lipczinsky, Felix Meseck, Gustav Meissner, Bruno Paetsch, Fritz Pfuhle, Alfred Scherres, Wilhelm August Stryowski, Julius Zielke.

The paintings, purchased from auction houses and antique shops throughout Europe, have returned to Gdańsk and this is where they should remain. The collection of Andrzej Walas in many respects matches those compiled by such Gdańsk collectors as Jacob Kabrun, Friedrich Basner or Lesser Giełdziński and certainly deserves a permanent presentation venue today.

EXHIBITION PREVIEW: 22 June, 06:00 pm
The exhibition is open until 15 July 2018, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
