Jan Heweliusz Prize 2010

The Mayor of the City of Gdansk, President of The Gdansk Science Association and President of the Gdansk section of The Polish Academy of Science have a real pleasure to invite for a celebration of awarding the Jan Heweliusz Science Prize of the City of Gdansk for the year 2010 to:

prof. Jan Burnewicz – in the category of arts subjects

prof. Janusz Rachoń – in the category of science

The celebration shall start at 3.30 pm:
- welcoming by the Mayor of Gdansk, Paweł Adamowicz
- laudation and handing the Prize and statuette to prof. Jan Burnewicz
- laudation and handing the Prize and statuette to prof. Janusz Rachoń
- music miniature by Capella Gedanensis

During the day we also invite you to:

12.30 – Main Town Hall, Długa 46/47 Str.

  • announcing the results of contests:
    • Tribute to Hevelius (University of Gdansk grants)
    • a contest for the best theatre play about the astronomer
  • presentation of the Polish Post stamp devoted to Hevelius
  • Era of the discoveries. 50 years of NASA – opening of an exhibition prepared by the Historic Museum of the City of Gdansk


5.00 pm – Jan Hevelius monument (park on Korzenna Str.)

  • happening: 400 lanterns for the 400th birthday anniverasy


6.30 pm – st. Catharine church

  • ecumenical mass and presentation of a memorial
