ARTbus 187 [Open Culture SPA]

In July 2011 the bus line 187 in Sopot will become a mobile gallery presenting works of artists invited to take part in the project.
The starting point for ARTbus project was the idea that artists should interfere in the public space of Sopot in places where art has not been present before, referring to the nature of the city. 187 bus route which runs almost through the whole city – from the center to the outskirts – is perfect for this project as it is also a convenient transport to/from places of presentations.

Original projects of local artists will be presented along this route:

Gazownia moja miłość by Iwona Zając,
Za snem short film by Kamila Chomicz,
Dobrobyt video by Jarek Czarnecki aka Elvin Flamingo,
Turysta installation by Mariusza Waras aka M-City,
Młodość nie radość/Leżeć! object by Krecha,
Dom w podwórzu mural by Piotr Zamojski
Otwarta Pracownia by Anna Wypych, Małgorzata Limon, Agata Wojcieszkiewicz and Dominika Hofman

Selected bus stops will be arranged by:

Gosia and Zuza Golińska (Kwitnę na 3 Maja 34),
Konrad Zientara (!&@%#!’),
Piotr Andruszkiewicz (Po godzinach),
PGR Art. (Open),
Emilia Bartkowska and Natalia Stachura (Biwak),
Swelina Association and Patrycja Orzechowska (OFF/ON)

Running along its usual route, 187 bus will become a guide not only to this unique exhibition but to all events of the OKK programme. And even though the route itself will remain unchanged - the vehicles will change! Works of young artists: Magda Mellin, Piotr Makowski, Agata Wojcieszkiewicz, Anna Wypych and Marcin Zawicki will be displayed on the buses.

There will be maps of the route and patterns drawn on sidewalks. Additionally, thanks to a special guide prepared for this occasion by the Friends of Sopot Society, there will be included interesting but forgotten places on the route. Out of a few dozen stops, ten were selected for the guide; they can become the starting point for individual wanders around the city.

Curator: Anna Zalewska
Organizer: The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdańsk
