Director of the BSCC in Executive Board of Culture Action Europe


On November 18 the twentieth General Assembly of Culture Action Europe was held in Brussels. New members of Executive Board were elected during a meeting: 8 of 10 nominees were elected including Lawrence Okey Ugwu, director of The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre.

Results of ballot (with number of votes in brackets):

Emina Visnic oraz Rolf Witte (50), Mercedes Giovinazzo (49 ), Paul Collard oraz Lawrence Okey Ugwu (47); Katherine Heid (37), Phillipe Fanjas (32), Ferdinand Richard (28) .

Further part of meeting was mainly dedicated to campaign We are more. We want to remind you, that this campaign was inaugurated in Sopot during conference More culture/ we are more (28 - 30. 07. 2011) as a part of project Open Culture SPA.

The main goal of Europe wide campaign  We are more is to make European policymakers to approve importance of art and culture in development of European countries. In effect they should support culture in coming negotiations related to budget of European Union for 2014 – 2020. The campaign was launched in 2010 and it will last until 2013 – a moment, when talks about budget will be closed. Currently more than 10 thousands of artists and representatives of culture are involved in campaign.

Culture action Europe was created in 1992 and is an advocacy and lobby organization promoting arts and culture as a building block of the European project. Its aim is influence European policies for more and better access to culture across the continent and beyond. This campaign provides customized information and analysis on the European Union, offers cultural actors a space to exchange and elaborate common positions, and develops advocacy actions towards European policymakers. The BSCC is a member of network since 2006.

Nowadays members of CAE represent 50 000 of organizations from whole Europe. These organizations represent all branches of culture – associations of writers, academic institutions, orchestras, organizations, which associate preservationists, national theatres and also international cultural networks and organizations, festivals, foundations, conservatories or even private companies, which work in culture sphere.
