Ateliers BRODWINO [Open Culture SPA]

Brodwino estate is located in the vicinity of Tri-City Landscape Park. The only in Sopot made entirely of blocks of flats - the quintessence of communist thinking about urban space. Organizers decided to use the human potential of the place by preparing a series of workshops and installations by Aleksandra Chomicz and Antonio Xavier. Brodwino Public Library will become a center for information and communication base, discussion forum and workshops.

MICRO-ATELIERS
The workshop is a kind of simulation game, an integrating activity or an artistic experience the main objective of which will be to touch on matters relating to European integration, dialogue between cultures, and the essence of local identity in the context of European identity. Every workshop will be dedicated to a different theme, with preference for realization at a different place/venue. The basis for each workshop will be education through fun activities, integration of participants around the selected subject, development of a positive attitude towards the subject, stimulation of personal involvement and sensitivity inspired by the workshop's contents.

Participants: children aged 4-12
Duration: 4 (groups of 10-15 participants) 2 full hours each group
Additional: 2 instructors

Mental-SPA: INSTALLATION
An outdoor chill-out project, a new form of mobile leisure space with a reading function, assembled for a period of 1-2 days (reference to futuristic forms of recreational-educational tourism and to urban identity). The project is a proposition of an alternative public space that could be temporarily "inhabited" by the participants. The project involves an intense artistic program encouraging inclusion of residents. The basic material of the installation will be books presenting European literature - showcase construction material as well as the subject of personal explorations during the literary creativity workshop. The program also provides head massage stimulating creative thinking as well as short alternative lessons of foreign languages. The installation can also be used for one of the micro-ateliers for children aged 4-12.

Participants: local residents
Duration: 1-2 days
Venue: by the pavilion complex, near the library, by the pond; the project requires involvement of a few volunteers and transportation of materials for the assembly of the installation
Authors of the project: Aleksandra Chomicz and António Xavier

MOBILE CABINET OF DIRECT DEMOCRACY
Discourse is an art form too 1972, Joseph Beuys
The project draws inspiration from an artistic project by J. Beuys. It consists of two parts: preparation, recording and editing of the material (a video) and its exposition in a public space (particularly the commercial space) of the district.
The first part of the project (recording of the showcase material) will include statements and interviews with the district's residents in various contexts of public space. Residents will be sharing their experiences from travels abroad, particularly in the countries of the European Union. The dialogues/monologs will consist of impressions, opinions, perceptions both preconceived and actual, dreams, plans for the future of becoming familiar with the public space outside the local habitat, through journeys both real and imagined. In editing the content of the interviews we will draw inspiration from Marco Polo's account of his journey to Kublai Khan's empire.
The second part of the project will be the exposition of the recorded material in local commercial spaces (shops, hairdresser's, library etc.), places frequented by the largest possible number of residents, where residents attend to their daily affairs, where informal communication ensues. The aim of the project is a confrontation of the resident's everyday life, their everyday momentary plans, the "here and now", with what is invisible, personal, imagined and more remote. The project also aims to create a form of discourse between the public reality and the personal reality, between the local dimension and a larger, intercultural context.

Participants: local residents
Duration: recording of the material - 1 week
Exhibition of the material: 2 weeks

Organizer: Public Library in Sopot

The project is a part of coordinated by the BSCC Open Culture SPA.
