WORLD ORCHESTRA BY GRZECH PIOTROWSKI - Solidarity of Arts Festival

Soon within the Solidarity of Arts Festival we will invite you for a special concert co-organised by the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre - World Orchestra by Grzech Piotrowski. It is an extraordinary journey to the roots of music, a journey with unique composition of artists, instruments and songs that constitutes a project that’s unlike anything you would ever expect of World Music. The uniqueness is not in the fact that the musicians come from every corner of the planet. The uniqueness is in the fact that they are the best musicians at their particular instruments on the planet. Brought together they sound fresh and exciting. This is folk music reloaded – its rich and inspiring kind. A language understood by everybody, regardless of age, religion, social status or continent.

World Orchestra’s concert at the Solidarity of Arts Festival is a one of a kind opportunity to listen to a number of intriguing instruments. A regular symphonic orchestra will be accompanied by an Armenian duduk, a Bulgarian kaval, Moldovan cymbals, a Bashkiri kurai, lyre, hurdy gurdy, harp, a Finnish kantele. Then there are the impressive vocal techniques used by Ruth Wilhelmine Meyer, Sergey Starostin and Sinikka Langeland, which go back to the traditions of singers from Bulgaria (white singing), Lapland (joik), Tuva, Mongolia, Japan and Norway (throat singing). In this environment even Grzech Piotrowski’s ordinary saxophone sounds like a rare variation of a "twisted" soprano from 1918.

Don’t confuse World Orchestra with yet another modern project employing unique instruments from ancient times. It really is a musical journey filled with freedom, subtle emotions and magic. A smooth cooperation of vibrant personalities and temperaments, an authentic dialogue between tradition and modernity, between the musical cultures of the world, between energy and contemplation.
