Schopenhauer was a woman

Shopenhauer was a woman- This musical supplement to memoirs of Johanna Schopenhauer of Gdańsk is an idea of Maia Miro Wiśniewska, realized by the Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdańsk. It took the form of the concert of XVII century music from Gdańsk and Europe, performed on historical instruments, with comments based on memoirs of Johanna Henrietta Schopenhauer and the dance scenes, based on historical choreographies.

Johanna Schopenhauer, the mother of the famous philosopher Artur Schpenhauer and later a German writer, was born in a house "Under the turtle" at Św.Ducha 81 street in Gdańsk. She was the author of novel, poems and memoirs, where she contained the picture of Gdańsk from the end of XVII century at the dawn of romanticism. Numerous trips and friendships with the outstanding representatives of the world of arts ( like J.W. Goethe) influenced her sensitivity and personality. The unfinished memoirs published after her death by her daughter Adel "Jugendleben und Wanderbilder, were also published in Poland. Published again in 2010 as "Gdańskie wspomnienia młodości" by Johanna Schopenhauer, were noticed by the connoisseurs of art and specialists on history of Gdańsk.
