The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdańsk has been invited to participate in the project culturebase.net (www.culturebase.net). The first artists to be portrayed by the BSCC are the excellent Ukrainian writer and poet Jurij Andruchowycz and the outstanding Polish jazzman Mikołaj Trzaska who recorded a common album "Andruchoid" lately. They are both going to be our guests in the Old Town Hall on 12-13 April during the meeting with the Ukrainian authors.

The meeting in Gdańsk takes place within the Festival of Contemporary Ukrainian Literature. It is the project aiming at promotion of books and reading which makes the most of the current interest in the Ukraine. The Ukrainian Revolution showed that solidarity with our neighbor is very important and what is the better way to express it than through culture? We would like to continue our tradition of presenting Ukrainian literature started in 2002 with the session of translators called “Songs of Eastern Slavs”. At the same time the increasing number of Ukrainian prose and poetry on Polish publishing market gives the perfect opportunity to arouse interest in these works and to encourage active participation in literary life.

The audience in Gdansk will have the pleasure to meet the Ukrainian authors such as Natalka ?niadanko, Jurij Andruchowycz, Serhij żadan, Lubko Deresz, Andrij Kurkow, Oksana Zabużko, Taras Prochaśko during the prose evening in the Old Town Hall. The second evening will be devoted to poetry with participation of: Andrij Bondar, Nazar Honczar, Ostap Slyvynski, Mykoł Riabczuk. The Festival in Gdańsk is to be closed by the common concert of Jurij Andruchowycz and Mikołaj Trzaska.
