Festival of World Cultures "Window onto world" - Indonesian Night

Gdynia – port city – widely open to the Word has always been a European city to the core. On the anniversary of twenty five years of the Agrement In July it is necessary to have a look once again at the meaning of the word „SOLIDARITY”. We would like to touch upon multiweft of the idea, based on the hormony of the outlook of life as well as atitudes and aspirations bringing about the feeling of contribution and responsibility. We must consider „SOLIDARITY” as an undivided activity in order to respekt different cultures, traditions and the outlook on life. The main assumption of the festival is to present the most interesting artistic productions, made by foreign artists living in Poland. In relation to the tradition and cultures of their countries, they enrich our Polish culture and point out brand new trends of its development.

8 of September at 9 p.m. in UCHO Club in Gdynia - a great performance of traditional Betwi, Java and Sumatra dances in execution of Gema Citra Nusantra from Indonesia. They show the following dances: NGREMO-Java, LEGONG KERATON-Bali, TOPENG DUA WATAK-Java, TOPENG GONG-Djakarta, KIPAH RATUH-Aceh. There also will be performance of Jadwiga Możdżer - famous polish dancer of the egzotic dances, choreographer, actress.

PROGRAM:
1.The Ngremo dance - Ngremo dance comes from the province of East Java in Indonesia and usually performs as the opening dance of an East Java folk opera called "Ludruk". It is a dance of a hero, however it's very unique because sometimes performed by a male transvestite.The Ngremo dance will be performed by Ms. Wiwiek H. Wahyuni.
2.The Legong Keraton dance - A court and classical female Balinese dance, it was created in the 18th century in the Sukawati principality. It tells about a fight between Prince Kahuripan and King of Lasem, whose beautiful daughter was "kidnapped" by the Prince Kahuripan. On the way to the fighting, Prince Kahuripan meets a big bird, which is a bad sign for someone who meet the bird.Months of training is needed to master the perfect mix of posture, movements and mimicry. Highly dynamic, this is usually performed by three dancers in glittering costumes. Ancient Legongs were accompanied by a story teller, but now it has become dance performance only.The Legong Keraton dance will be performed by Ms. Ratih Puspitasari, Ms. Siti Suryani and Ms. Dian Damayanti.
3. The Topeng Dua Watak dance - "Topeng" means "mask". This dance comes from West Java province and tells about two characters possesed by a human being, that is the good one (symbolized by a blue mask) and "Klana"--the bad one (symbolized by a red mask). Performed by Mrs. Mira M.A. Soerjanatamihardja.
4. The Topeng Gong dance - A mask dance comes from Batavia/Jakarta (the capital of Indonesia). It is a folk dance of Batavia people. It will be performed by Ms. Wiwiek H. Wahyuni, Ms. Ratih Puspitasari, Ms. Siti Suryani and Ms. Ratna Asih.
5. The Rampai Aceh dance - "Rampai Aceh dance" means a dance of a thousand hands, derived from the traditional dance of several regions in Aceh province of Indonesia. The dynamic, harmonious movements are performed in unity/harmony, symbolizing the spirit of Aceh society. This dance usually is performed by at least 6 persons. This dance will be performed by all 6 dancers.
6. Dancing together - In this last part of performance, the dancers will ask and invite audiences to dance together with them.
